CHENNAI: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has directed a school here to readmit students expelled for not paying the fee fixed by it. Husanara Athher, Asrar Ahmed and Zainab Athher of class III, IV and VII respectively and children of Athher Ahmed were expelled by the Asan Memorial School, a CBSE affiliated institution, when the parent refused to pay fee more than what was fixed by the Justice Govindarajan Fee Fixation Committee.Against this background, NCPCR, has directed the school through the Chennai district collector to revoke the transfer certificate and readmit the students. The Commission, in its letter to the District Collector, said the action of the school violated the Right to Free and Compulsory Education of Children Act, 2009 (RTE Act).“The school is liable for disciplinary action,” the commission said. The child welfare body asked the collector to issue circulars to educational institutions to refrain from charging fee for elementary education. The collector has been asked to investigate the matter and send a report to NCPCR within 15 days.
