New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday extended till further order its stay on arrest of Anirudh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav, controversial RJD MP and brother-in-law of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, in connection with an assault case registered against him at Gopalganj district in Bihar.
A Bench comprising Justice B P Singh and Justice Tarun Chatterjee also issued notice to the Bihar government on a petition filed by Sadhu challenging the Patna High Court order rejecting his anticipatory bail plea.
Sadhu, a Lok Sabha MP from Gopalganj, is accused of assaulting Dinesh Kumar Sahu, a candidate, who contested for the post of chief of Phulwaria block development committee in the district against RJD chief's sister-in-law Kunti Devi.
Senior advocate Nagendra Rai, appearing for Sadhu, sought extension on the stay. However, when the Bench asked the Bihar government's opinion, its counsel Gopal Singh submitted that he has not received any instruction in this regard and hence he was unable to say anything at the moment.
A local court had declared Sadhu a proclaimed offender in the case and had ordered attachment of his properties. Earlier, on September 29, the court had stayed Sadhu's arrest till Thursday.
