Bogota: Colombia's Santiago Giraldo defeated compatriot Carlos Salamanca 6-2, 6-4 at the Claro Open Colombia on Monday in the return of an ATP Tour event to his home country after 11 years.
The sixth-seeded Giraldo and Salamanca were two of six Colombians in the singles draw at the tournament, which was added to the ATP schedule after a Colombian group bought the sanction to the long-running ATP tournament in Los Angeles last year.
Fifth-seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino defeated Colombian wild card Alejandro Gonzalez 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, overcoming a second-set lapse in which he won just one point on serve.
Top-seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic has a first-round bye in the hard-court event. Bogota previously held an ATP tournament from 1997 to 2002.
