Sanjay Dutt moves SC for regular bail
He has been sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act.

New Delhi: Sanjay Dutt on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking regular bail following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case.

The Bollywood actor, sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act in connection with the case, was earlier granted interim bail by the SC on the condition that he would surrender after getting a copy of the judgement of special TADA Judge PD Kode.

The actor surrendered before the TADA court on October 22 after getting a copy of the judgement.

The court has held him guilty of possessing an AK-56 rifle and a 9 mm pistol. He was acquitted of charges under the TADA but said that he cannot be declared a terrorist merely because he had a gun during the 1993 serial blasts.

Kode said in his judgement that Dutt was tried and convicted under the Arms Act because he didn’t regard the actor as a terrorist.

Kode, in his 4340-page and 25-kg judgement copy, also said that circumstances have an important role to play in the way a person reacts to a situation and different people react in different ways.

The judge added that owning the weapons did not prove that Dutt intended to use the guns for terrorist activities.
