The Samaikhyandhra agitation launched by various Joint Action Committees (JAC) has paralysed the normal life here for the third day on Thursday as the APNGOs unit and RTC employees stuck to their protesting against the proposed bifurcation of the state.
Commercial establishments, big shopping malls and schools remained closed as a mark of protest even as nearly 30,000 employees of various government departments and educational institutions took part in the agitation.
According to RTC sources, nearly 1,063 buses in the district remained confined to depots for the third day today, disrupting passenger movement.
Though the APNGOs (non gazetted officers) and RTC employees took part in the agitation by boycotting their duties, they participated in the Independence Day celebrations.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the district by deploying large number of police personnel at various places to maintain law and order.
According to police, the situation was peaceful and no untoward incidents were reported in the district.
