THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sainik School, Kazhakkoottam, will be sanctioned a 'multipurpose synthetic court,' Sports and Forests Minister K B Ganesh Kumar has said. He was speaking after distributing the prizes for the Capt R Harshan Memorial Inter-School Basketball Tournament. The State Government had earlier announced that such courts would be established in every district to enable cost-effective conduct of several sports events using the same venue. According to Ganesh Kumar, the StateGovernment plans to construct multipurpose synthetic courts in 25 schools in the state. The Minister also said that the nation required heroes like Harshan and called upon the students to emulate the ideals of Capt R Harshan in their life. School principal Group Captain B Janardhanan welcomed the gathering. This trophy was instituted by the school in memory of Capt R Harshan, AC, an alumnus of the school, who died in Kashmir while fighting the terrorists on March 20, 2007. Capt Harshan was a member of the elite Para Commando Force engaged in anti-terrorist operations in the Kashmir Sector. The Nation honoured this brave hero by awarding AshokChakra on August 15, 2007. ST JOSEPH'S SCHOOL LIFTS TITLESt Joseph's School, Thiruvananthapuram, won the third edition of the Capt R Harshan Memorial Inter-School Basketballtournament. In the finals, St Joseph's defeated St Thomas School, Kozhencheri 54-38. Thirteen schools from around the State partic ipated in this prestigious tournament. This year, the tourney was held as part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the School. Amal Jose of St Joseph's was adjudged the best player of the tournament
