HYDERABAD: Why was a huge quantity of bullion and cash lying in the chambers of the late Satya Sai Baba at Prashanti Nilayam? The Sai Trust four Rs11.56 crore in cash, 98 kg of gold and 307 kg of silver were found in Yajurveda Mandir.Those who know the ways of Prashanti Nilayam said cash donations to the Baba used to be deposited in the bank. “But since last November Baba had not been keeping well. This must have been why cash was left to lie in his room,” a source said.Likewise, Prashanti Nilayam had for long engaged a jeweller in Bangalore to make gold and silver ornaments which the Baba used to “materialise” as presents to his devotees. However, for months preceding his death, Baba could not meet devotees the way he used to in the past. Hence the pile-up in the Yajurveda Mandir. Curiously, a vehicle reportedly carrying Rs 25 lakh in cash from the Sai ashram was intercepted by the cops Saturday.
