BANGALORE: Is the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) so poor that it cannot pay a measly monthly rent of Rs 41.66 for his head office on Queen’s Road. So it seems, for, it hasn’t paid the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) the rent for the past one year. The rent for the KPCC head office measuring 17,037 square feet at No 14 Queen’s Road in Miller’s Tank Bed area is Rs 500 a year (on 99-year lease) and for another building of 19,420 square feet at No 12, it is Rs 12,000 a year (lease 30 years). The KPCC has failed to pay up the dues though the BBMP had served notices. The BBMP had let out the 17,037-square foot building to KPCC on lease since 1993 for 99 years with the lease period ending in 2092.The BBMP’s property monitoring and protection committee, which submitted its final report in April 2011, suggested that the BBMP hike the lease rates for its properties in accordance with the prevailing market rates to bring additional revenue and added that properties should be leased through auctioning. The KPCC building is just one of the 394 properties which BBMP has leased out and the Congress office is just one of the BBMP’s rent defaulters.Mayor Sharadamma warned that if the KPCC does not respond to the notice and pay up the dues, the BBMP will reclaim the property. Regarding other properties, she said action will be taken if the tenants are found to have sub-leased the premises to other parties. When Express tried to contact KPCC president G Parameshwar on the matter, he was unavailable for comment.
