HYDERABAD: The standing committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporat ion (GHMC) on Wednesday recommended the budget estimates of Rs 3,600 crore as against the proposed Rs 2,934.99 crore for the year 2012-13.The draft budget was presented by the new Mayor and standing committee chairperson M Majid Hussain on Wednesday.Later speaking to newsmen, the mayor said property tax estimates have been proposed to be increased to Rs 720 crore.Property tax would be collected from the state government properties and service charges on Central government properties.Without enhancing the taxes, property tax collections can go up substantially by bringing all the unassessed properties into the tax net and by unearthing under-assessment and change of use of property owners and through recovery of dues from the defaulters, he said.The building permission fee will increased to Rs 160 crore, building development charges to Rs 75 crore and betterment charges to Rs 80 crore, he said and added that garbage collection fee will be increased to Rs 12 crore.On expenditure side, the standing committee has agreed to increase ex gratia under Mayor’s discretionary quota to Rs 3 crore and ex gratia per head to Rs 1 lakh.Budget for repairs and maintenance of major roads (`70 crore), repairs to minor roads (Rs 65 crore), repairs and maintenance of storm water drains (Rs 35 crore), construction of bridges, RoBs, RuBs, culverts and flyovers, sub-ways (Rs 150 crore) Under welfare activities Rs 70 crore has been earmarked for conservation of lakes and rivers, Rs 550 crore for construction of housing units for the poor, Rs 40 crore for construction of parks and Rs 17 crore for streetlights, he said.
