New Delhi: The Kolkata police have begun their probe on Rizwanur Rehman's death case.
Rehman, in letters to human rights groups had reportedly named top police officials of pressuring him to severe relations with wife Priyanka.
Rehman was found dead on the tracks under mysterious circumstances on the railway track in Dum Dum, which is in the outskirts of Kolkata over two weeks ago whose body was found on railway tracks a month after he married Priyanka, who is a Hindu.
CID had submitted its interim report to the West Bengal government on the cause of death of Rehman.
Additional Director-general (CID) Bhupinder Singh has handed over the interim report to the Home Secretary.
Asst Commissioner Sukanti Chakraborty and Sub Inspector Krishanendu Das were suspended after the CID's interim report.
The Calcutta High Court is now hearing a writ petition case filed by 30-year-old Rehman's relatives.
The next hearing in that case will be on Monday. Meanwhile, senior politburo member Jyoti Basu has condemned the comments of Kolkata Police Commissioner, Prasun Mukherjee where he defended the police force.
“I condemn the comments of police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee in the case where he defended the police force & said that "we are professionals & we work this way,” says Basu.
