New Delhi: In an analysis that could upset food lovers, the Delhi government food safety department has claimed that rice dishes served by popular restaurant chains KFC and Sagar Ratna have been found to be unsafe.

The department has told the High Court that traces of harmful artificial colouring were found in the food. Samples from KFC's restaurant at Connaught Place and from Sagar Ratna's outlet in Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar were found to be unsafe.

Legal action has been initiated against the companies. Action has been initiated against a third restaurant, Bikanerwala, as one of their samples was also found to be sub standard.

The government response came on a petition seeking ban on sale of food items with artificial colours and pesticides.
