SABARIMALA: The revenue earnings at Lord Ayyappa temple made a record by showing an increase of about Rs 34 lakh on the first day of the Mandalam-Makaravilakku season on Thursday.The aggregate income on the first day was Rs 2.18 crore as against Rs 1.84 crore on the first day of the last season.Of this, the income from aravana sales stood at Rs 71.42 lakh as against Rs 68.70 during the corresponding day in the last season. The hundi collection is Rs 82.30 lakh in contrast to Rs 74.34 lakh during the period under review last season.The income from appam sales stood at Rs 9.36 lakh as against 9.29 lakh during the corresponding day in the last season. Pilgrim Shelters The demolition of pilgrim shelters, the resting place for the pilgrims belonging to below poverty line at Pandithavalam, has put thousands of devotees in deep trouble.The Travancore Devaswom Board, which auctions the pilgrim shelters to contractors annually, instead of providing alternative accommodation for the hapless pilgrims, demolished them at one go.
