New Delhi/Orissa: Within two days of CNN-IBN reporting about an Indian soldier from Orissa languishing in Pakistan jail for last seven years, the Orissa government has swung into action.

The government has collected details of the man and will provide them to Pakistan authorities so that the proceedings for his release can be taken forward.

Sukanta Mohanty from Salipur in Orissa mistakenly crossed the border in Punjab in 1998 and landed in a Pakistan jail.

The district administration sent its special team to the soldier's family to collect details.

But the investigation has turned murky with another family in Salipur also claming that the person in Lahore jail belongs their family.

The family says the photograph sent by Pakistan authorities resembles their 26-year-old son Shyam Sunder Das.

The administration is now sending details and photographs collected from both the families to Pakistan for verification.
