Rathore stays in jail, bail plea deferred again
Former police officer sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for molestation.

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday deferred till Tuesday the bail plea of former police officer S P S Rathore, who has been sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for molesting teenaged tennis player Ruchika Girhotra.

Rathore’s lawyer and wife Abha Rathore filed a review petition on his behalf in the High Court on May 26 seeking bail, a day after he was sentenced and lodged in the high-security Burail jail in Chandigarh.

A single vacation bench of Justice Ajay Tewari deferred the case till Tuesday.

On May 28, High Court Judge, Justice Gurdev Singh had posted the matter for today on the plea of the CBI counsel that the investigating agency had not received copy of the review petition.

In her petition, Abha has alleged that the appellate court had on May 25 passed the order "under media pressure".

She had pleaded that Rathore, a former Director General of Police in Haryana, was facing "severe health problems". Rathore was jailed after sessions court increased his prison term to 18 months for molesting Ruchika, who later committed suicide 20 years back.
