New Delhi: A case of rape has been registered by the Crime Branch against the SHO of Inderpuri and four others, who have been accused of raping a woman in the police station. The crime branch probing the case, registered an FIR on Tuesday night after recording the victim's statement.
Initial medical reports showed no signs of physical injury, but a forensic report to confirm rape is still awaited. Inderpuri witnessed large scale protests on Tuesday when people took to the streets protesting the alleged rape of a woman by police officials.
A crowd of angry protesters attacked the police station on Tuesday. Over 100 people pelted stones at the Inderpuri police station in south-west Delhi after hearing the woman's allegations.
The woman, who resides in a slum in Inderpuri, alleged that she went to the Inderpuri police station on Monday night to enquire about her husband, who was allegedly wanted for gambling.
She claimed that she was sexually assaulted by the SHO and four others who later threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.
After she was let off, the woman said in a police complaint, she informed her husband who took her to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. The husband said the hospital authorities asked him to inform police.
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said that they could comment about the incident only after getting the report of the medical examination conducted at the RML hospital.
"The Crime Against Women Cell is investigating the case. We can say anything about the incident only after receiving the medical report," he told PTI.
