The gender ratio for voters in Rajasthan has seen a swing in favour of women with the state election commission announcing that there are now 897 women for every 1,000 male voters as against 874 in January last.

The rise in the number of women voters was secured through special efforts and campaigns conducted by the state election commission, Chief Election Officer Ashok Jain said on Friday. The number of women voters for every 1,000 males was 874 on January 21 and has now jumped to 897 as of August 19. During this period, "over 8 lakh female voters were added (to the electoral rolls)," Jain said. Census 2011 figures for the gender ratio in the state is 926 females for every 1,000 males.

"Efforts were on to take the number of female voters higher. Special campaigns were undertaken in the state for the purpose. "Aanganbadi, Asha Sahyogini workers and others motivated females in remote areas to add their names to voters' lists," he added.

Rajasthan now has approximately 4.5 crore voters, broken down into2.13 male and 1.91 crore female voters.
