Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Arvinder Singh on Saturday appealed to Congress party workers to resign from their posts on the various boards and committees of Delhi government.
"Aam Aadmi Party has taken its oath of office and, thus, all the (Congress) chairmen and members of boards and committees should resign from their posts so that the new Chief Minister can constitute those anew the way he wants," he said.
Singh's exhortation came soon after AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had taken oath of office as the Chief Minister of Delhi at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday.
Meanwhile, addressing a group of party members on the occasion of Congress's Foundation Day, Singh said that the party which fought for the freedom of the country through tremendous struggles and sacrifices was still working with the same drive, dynamism and vigour to give India a distinctive identity in the world.
"Despite making great sacrifices and contributions, Congress never deserted its roots as the party never believed in showing off, but fought to make solid contributions to a bright future for the country," he said.
Singh further said that under the leadership of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the party will give a fitting reply to those who were trying to foment trouble and destabilise the country through communalism and sectarianism.
