Mumbai: In Maharashtra, admission to private medical and dental colleges will be centralised from this year.
The Bombay High Court has ordered that these admissions will henceforth be monitored by state government agencies in order to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.
The admissions will have to be completed by September 10 and the list of all the selected candidates, along with their marks, must be displayed on the website of the agencies, the court ruled.
Meanwhile, the Congress-led Democratic Front government in Maharashtra has quietly approved a draft ordinance that will bring in a staggering 50% reservation in private professional institutions.
Maharashtra is the first state in the country to move a proposal for reservation after the recent amendment to the constitution, and this could be implemented as early as the coming academic year.
