PARADIP: United Action Committee (UAC) has sought the intervention of Revenue Divisional Commissioner (central range) and the district collector for resettlement of the 75 ostracised families of Gobindpur and Patana villages. These families were allegedly tortured for their pro-Posco stance and forced to leave the village about four years back by the rival group.UAC members took up the issue during a meeting at Gadkujang panchayat. With the land acquisition process underway in Gobindpur, their presence is a must for them to make claim for compensation, the members opined. They also demanded compensation for land losers of Nuagaon, whose betel vines were demolished in 2008.  However, Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS) is opposing their return as it could trigger law and order situation in the area.UAC had earlier sent a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central Range) and district collector last year urging them to resettle these families in their respective villages before resumption of land acquisition process, but no steps have been taken so far. While the 52 families of Patana village are living in a Posco transit colony at Badgabpur under Balitutha panchayat, the 23 families of Gobindpur have taken shelter in the houses of their relatives.UAC president Anadi Rout said that they faxed their demands on Saturday. “We will intensify the stir if the administration fails to concede to our demands,” he added.  Meanwhile, PPSS has chalked out strategies to foil the land acquisition process to be resumed from June 17 June after Raja. As many as 40 teams have been formed to rebuild 31 demolished betel vines at Gobindpur.Ersama BDO Muralidhar Swain said that the administration plans to get these families back in the village during the land acquisition process for enumeration and identification of their betel vines and it will be done once normalcy is restored. He informed that the administration has received more than 150 applications for demolition of betel vines.
