COIMBATORE: The bail petition of Inspector General of Police Pramod Kumar, who was arrested for allegedly extorting Rs 2.85 crore from the directors of the fraudulent Paazee Group of Companies, was on Friday dismissed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the city. In his 18 page order, CBI Court Judge V Ramasamy rejected Pramod’s bail plea on four grounds. “Substantial public interest is involved in this case and priority should be given to public interest. The accused has not been cooperative in this case. Mental agony of thousands of depositors should be given priority,” he observed Earlier, Pramod, the accused number 6 in the case, demanded bail on parity grounds since two of the five accused in the Paazee case have already been released on bail. He also reasoned that the prosecution failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated period of 60 days. However, the Judge said that in Pramod Kumar’s case, the CBI still had time to file a chargesheet. So, he could not be granted bail on parity grounds, the Judge said in his order. Hence, the CBI could take Pramod Kumar into custody for further interrogation. Further, the the IG has tremendous influence to tamper with the documents and witnesses. Both the CBI counsel Devanathan and senior advocate Gnanabarathi, who appeared on behalf of the directors of the Paazee firm, were against Kumar being granted bail. On Tuesday, he complained of chest pain, after being hospitalised for 20 hours was discharged .
