Apart from the demonetisation of high value bank notes, more steps are needed to eradicate black money from the Indian economy, the head of the RSS’s intellectual cell told News18 in an interview.
“This is the first step, but no one can say that the problem of black money will be tackled by just this one step,” said Swant Ranjan, Akhil Bharatiya Bouddhik Pramukh of the RSS.
“The government has said that the next step is that they will tackle benami properties and talk to other countries to get back the black money stashed abroad. It is a step by step process,” he said.
He also said that at present only 3 percent of India’s population pays Income Tax and that if the demonetisation helps to widen the tax base it would be good for the nation.
When asked which party would benefit from demonetisation in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, Ranjan said that the BJP
would reap the dividends. “We feel the results should be good on the Uttar Pradesh polls. The public is praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking forceful steps,” he said.
He declined to risk a guess on how many seats the BJP was likely to win in UP Assembly polls slated early next year.
When asked if political parties should be brought under the Right to Information Act to improve transparency regarding their finances, he replied that they could do it if there is a consensus between the parties.
