The project requires 1621 hectares of land of which about 1253 hectares is forest land.
New Delhi: Pohang Steel Compnay (POSCO) has got conditional clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forest for its proposed steel plant at Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district of Orissa.
The ministry gave clearance for the steel plan with 28 additional conditions and for the POSCO port with 32 additional conditions as part of environment clearance. The ministry also sought assurance from the Orissa government for the compliance of the Forest Rights Act.
POSCO had signed a MoU on June 22, 2005 with Orissa government for setting up an integrated steel plant with the total capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum.
The entire project requires about 1621 hectares of land of which about 1253 hectares is forest land.
