New Delhi: Illegal encroachment is the biggest problem in Pitampura due to which there perpetual jam in the area and people find it very difficult to find space to park their vehicles. Even as the authroties have failed to act against encroachers, the residents of the area too are to be blamed for the problem.
Shopkeepers have encroached upon the footpath in the markets with small vendors selling their product on the roads. The residents have encroached upon the roads and turned into a parking space for their vehicles. So pedestrians find it very tough to walk on roads as there are massive jams in the area.
Ashok Bhasin, North Delhi Resident Association President, said that encroachment is a big problem in the area and parking vehicles on roads has made it worse. Pitampura resident Rohit said people have encroached upon the road and were using it as personal parking space. Even the parks in the area are being used for parking instead of children playing in them.
The area is a BJP stronghold as the councillor and MLA are from the same party and so there is no war of words. Instead the councillor Chandiram Chawla claimed that parking and illegal encroachment was a problem in entire Delhi.
Chawla added that vehicles were increasing but the parking space was constant. Two multilevel parking were planned but the projects have been put in cold storage. A plan to construct underground parking is being protested by the residents even as encroachment is increasing in the area.
Pitampura also faces the problem of poor drainage and ill maintained and dirty parks. According to the residents several parks have become dumping grounds for garbage. Gates and walking tracks in the parks have been broken.
