Cuttack: The Justice PK Mohanty Commission probing the Pipli rape case has asked the Odisha government to submit its reply by the next hearing scheduled on September 7, explaining cause of delay in cremation of the victim.
The state government is yet to file its counter on the controversial case after Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Ray had earlier filed his replies in a sealed cover.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Saturday received at least nine more affidavits from as many witnesses, taking the total number of affidavits received by the commission till date to 59.
Among the persons who submitted their written response included Pipli SDPO Rajendra Rout, investigating officer (IO) RC Sethy, a crime branch DSP and the three doctors of Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, who had first examined the teenage Dalit victim to ascertain whether she was raped or not.
After perusing affidavits of doctors, the commission on Saturday asked the state government to furnish a guideline if any on how doctors shall act when they come across medico-legal cases.
The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate police was accused of taking over the custody of the victim's body which was being taken for cremation after her death at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on June 21. It was also alleged that the body was left unattended for over 20 hours on the outskirts of Pipli village and the decomposed body was cremated nearly 60 hours after her death.
