PERUMBAVOORA: The town and nearby areas, where tension prevailed on Tuesday in connection with the slaughtering of a cow in a compound in front of a temple, limped back to normalcy on Wednesday. Police officers, including Ernakulam Rural SP K P Philip and Dy SPs A Anilkumar and Harikrishnan, camped in the area and monitored the developments. Meanwhile, the police thwarted attempts to take out a protest rally from the temple premises. The police had to chase away the mob which tried to hold protest demonstrations in various areas. “Police pickets were strengthened in sensitive areas. No untoward incident has been reported yet,” the SP said. The police charged cases against the three who slaughtered the cow for promoting enmity between two groups on the ground of religion, criminal conspiracy and killing of cattle under IPC Sections 153 A, 120 B and 429. They have been remanded in judicial custody.Meanwhile, a veterinary surgeon examined the carcass of the cow. The internal organs and intestine fluids of the cow were collected and sent for chemical examination and to ascertain whether the cattle was poisoned. District Collector P I Sheik Pareed convened an all-party peace meeting to sort out the issues and put an end to the tension.
