KOZHIKODE: If the overall mood prevailing at Thaivacha Parambathu House, the residence of slain leader T P Chandrasekharan, is any indication, K K Madhavan -- T P’s father-in-law -- is about to quit the CPM, the party which has been his life and soul since its inception. And, he is not alone. As the role of CPM men stands exposed, people are visiting the graveyard of Chandrasekharan in large numbers ahead of leaving the party.Madhavan, a former CPM Balussery area committee secretary, had earlier made it clear that he would quit if party’s link with the murder was proved. According to sources, he is in contact with his yesteryear colleagues at Karshaka Sangham, the farmer organisation of the CPM, prior to the official declaration.“He is in touch with his old colleagues and will announce the resignation later,” said K K Jayan, leader of the youth wing of RMP. Like in many parts of the state, party workers are planning to quit the party in Kozhikode district also. This phenomenon is most visible in Onchiyam, once an impregnable fortress of the CPM, where the party cadre is joining the party floated by T P Chandrasekharan, en masse. As many as 11 party members led by leaders of SFI and DYFI from Elangoli branch of Eramala Panchayat arrived TP’s residence and declared their resignation after police arrested two party persons on Tuesday. After this, Onchiyam witnessed an incessant flow of rebel CPM workers. On Thursday, several members of the Toddy Tappers Union, which is affiliated to the CPM, announced their resignation and joined the RMP. DYFI Vilangupara village secretary, along with other office bearers, resigned owing to the party’s role in the brutal killing of Chandrasekharan. CPM workers and sympathisers from Shoranur, Ottapalam, Kannur and Malappuram are still visiting Chandrasekharan’s residence at Onchiyam. Those who worked with Chandrasekharan in SFI and DYFI are organising a remembrance meeting at Nochad, the native village of CPM district secretary T P Ramakrishnan, on May 20. The organisers are expecting a huge turnout as the CPM link is revealed at least at the area committee level.Meanwhile, CPM district committee decided not to take action against those who attended a Chandrasekharan commemoration meet organised by CPM activists and former leaders of DYFI and SFI at Kozhikode on Monday.
