BODI: An all-party meeting held here on Saturday decided to allow passenger traffic up to Bodi Mettu. It was also resolved to permit workers and farmers to carry essential commodities like rice, vegetables up to 2 kg.However, a decision regarding allowing movement of vehicles across the Kerala border will be taken only after January 2.Following the decision of the meeting, buses, vans, jeeps and autos will now be able to go up to Bodi Mettu. But the ‘ban’ on ferrying of commercial goods continues to stay. The meeting which was presided over by Bodi Deputy Superintendent of Police Srinivasaperumal was attended by Revenue inspector Muthuraj, TNSTC branch manager Arulanandam, representatives of AIADMK, DMK, DMDK, CPM, CPI, Farmers Liberation Front, Cardamom Farmers Association and Advocates Association.Auto, van and jeep drivers also participated. The decision has brought a relief to workers and farmers as the road transport remained suspended from December 5 on Bodi Mettu road affecting the livelihood of scores of people on both sides of the border.Even before the all-party meet, passenger traffic was allowed to resume in view of the Christmas and half yearly exam holidays.Meanwhile, as the advocates staged a road roko alleging that goods were being transported in jeeps and buses plying to Bodi Mettu, only buses were allowed in the last two days.
