NAGERCOIL: Sleuths of the Central Crime Branch - Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) on Monday conducted investigations at an NGO run by People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) political wing coordinator Mano Thangaraj at Paloor in Karungal here.A few months ago, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials conducted a raid at Thangaraj’s NGO, Good Vision, and verified its documents to find out whether funds had been diverted for the anti-Koodankulam protests. After the raid, the MHA froze the NGO’s accounts. Following this, the CB-CID also conducted a raid at the NGO and filed a case under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.On Monday they conducted a probe at Good Vision’s office. “As part of our investigation, we verified some documents and got some clarifications from Mano Thangaraj today,” confirmed a highly-placed police source. “They (the officials) came around 11 am and the verification went on till 3 pm. We showed whatever documents they asked us for and they were satisfied,” Thangaraj said.‘Attempt to Divert Attention from K-Stir’People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) leader Pushparayan on Monday claimed that the PMANE had nothing to do with the recent attack on a panchayat president’s husband.Based on complaints filed by Vijayapathy panchayat president Sahaya Betlin Egithin’s husband Sahayaraj and his brother Stalin of Idinthakarai, alleging that they were attacked on Saturday night, cases were filed against PMANE functionaries S P Udayakumar, Pushparayan, M P Jesuraj and others.On Monday, Pushparayan said, “We are not concerned about the Rs 500 crore package for the Koodankulam area, nor are we trying to interfere in panchayat activities. Certain forces are trying to fix us in criminal cases to divert the attention from the real issue. But, people are united and are concerned only about the anti-KKNPP protest.”He reiterated that the PMANE had no connection as alleged in the complaint filed by the panchayat president’s husband, and added, “some forces were trying to portray the anti-KKNPP struggle as a violent one. Their attempt to tarnish the protest will not succeed.”
