The panel will review US strategy in the subcontinent.

New Delhi: Pakistani journalist Ahmed Rashid has been appointed as a consultant on a panel set up by General David Petraeus, the Chief of US Central Command.

The panel will review US strategy in the subcontinent.

Rashid is expected to argue on the need for international intervention on Kashmir.

He believes that Pakistan's insecurities vis-a-vis India need to be addressed if the US is to get Islamabad's full cooperation against war on terror.

The newly constituted panel also includes journalist and author Shuja Nawaz, brother of Pakistan's late army chief Gen Asif Nawaz.

Incidentally, Rashid had suggested setting up a contact group under the UN Security Council to initiate an India-Pakistan dialogue on Afghanistan and on Kashmir.

What's your reaction?
