Pak blames India for not moving ahead on peace talks
Quershi claims Indian polity is divided and can't deal with Pakistan.

London: A day after Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani spoke about peace talks, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has started his country's war of words with India.

Qureshi, who along with External Affairs Minister SM Krishna was in London attended the Afghanistan conference , blamed India for failure of bilateral talks claiming Indian polity was divided and did not know how to react to Pakistan.

"Indian polity is divided and confused over whether to engage with Pakistan or to shy away," said Qureshi.

Krishna replied that Pakistan must act on the 26/11 dossiers provided by India.

"There is no dichotomy in Indian polity. We had met in New York and had hoped that investigation in Pakistan on 26/11 will continue on the dossier provided but we have not heard of the outcome if they have taken place," Krishna said.

Even on the issue of Afghanistan, Qureshi took a dig at the Indian government's stand.

"Afghanistan can have its own relations but Afghanistan also realises that in immediate future countries of immediate assistance are immediate neighbours of Afghanistan," said Qureshi.

However, Krishna replied saying India will keep on engaging with Afghanistan.

"The welfare and well being of Afghanistan is one of the top priorities of Indian foreign policy," Krishna said.

However, Krishna and Qureshi did not hold bilateral talks.

Krishna buttressed his point saying India would be providing 500 fellowships over the next five years to Afghan students.

He also announced that India will support 200 Afghan students every year in agriculture and related areas to help the war-ravaged country build indigenous capacities.

The Afghanistan conference was hosted by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and attended by foreign ministers of over 60 countries.
