NAYAGARH: The river Kamei near Kantilo breached banks at two places flooding Krushreswarpatna, Jwainpada, Goudasahi, Kamarasahi and Dhobasahi areas on Sunday.Large tracts of paddy fields have been damaged.Around 10,000 people have taken shelter in relief camps.Bodasa, Sidhamula, Benagadia and Banpur gram panchayats in Khandapara block have been cut off from the mainstream due to flooding of roads.Flood water has also entered Tentuliapalli, Muraipur, Patharachakada, Kadua and Duaragaon villages.Official sources said 50 villages in five gram panchayats of the block, including Kantilo, are marooned.Roads leading to Sri Gokulananda Peeth and Ecotourism Centre of the Forest Department near Sidhamula are under water and the water level at Sidhamula bridge connecting Nayagarh and Cuttack districts has crossed the danger mark.In Bhapur block, around 20,000 people of 16 villages under Fategarh, Karbar, Sasan, Padmavati, Patharchakada and Dhanchengada gram panchayats are facing the fury of the swelling Mahanadi.Collector Arbinda Agrawal visited the block.Out of 60 villages marooned in Gania block, people of 56 villages in Badasilinga and Chhamundia gram panchayats have not yet received relief materials.ODRAF team which reached here in the morning, has been sent to Bhapur block for rescue operation.Sub-Collector Manas Ranjan Devata is overseeing the relief work.
