Orders reserved on merger of Tiruverumbur town

CHENNAI: The first bench of the High Court on Wednesday, reserved for Thursday orders on the appeal from the State government,  which challenged the verdict of a single judge who set aside the orders merging Tiruverumbur town panchayat with Tiruchy Corporation.Originally, while passing orders on a petition challenging the notifications passed in 2010 and 2011, Justice N Kirubakaran on September 21  last had set aside the notifications. The non-compliance of the statutory requirement of publication of the merger proposal in newspapers had vitiated the merger process, the judge held. Aggrieved, the State preferred the present appeal. The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivgnanam reserved the orders.
