BANGALORE: Congress councillors have demanded state government to supersede Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Speaking to reporters on Friday, Opposition leader M Udayshankar said that the Ruling Party had cheated people by presenting a budget which was far from reality.He said there was a provision in law, where government can supersede a urban civic body, if it fails in financial management.“Mayor Sharadamma should take responsibility and resign before state government supersedes the civic body,” he demanded.Udayshankar said that Ruling Party presented Rs 10,000-crore budget and promised to undertake developmental works. But, they have taken the citizens for a ride without fulfilling their promises.“When they presented the budget, we had warned it was a bogus. Even state government was not happy with the budget. Meanwhile, commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda has insisted that no new work will be taken, but only ward works will be considered. This has proved our thoughts right,” he said.Further, Udayshankar said that Rs 2 crore was allotted to each old ward and Rs 3 crore to each new ward, which was close to Rs 500 crore.“At the most, Palike can spend Rs 2,000 crore in this current fiscal. If that is a case, what is the use of presenting Rs 10,000 crore budget,” he asked. “The Ruling Party has assured to mobilise Rs 2,315 crore revenue, but so far, have collected only Rs 1,628 crore. How will they collect the remaining Rs 7,693 crore in the next four months,” he added.
