The winner of the first season of reality TV show Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant, on Saturday joined the Shiv Sena.
A formal announcement about the singer's entry into politics was made by the party's executive president Uddhav Thackeray at the Sena Bhawan on Saturday.
Uddhav hopes that Abhijeet will be an attraction for the youth. ''He's young. Now his responsibility will be to attract youth to politics',” he says.
The 29-year-old singer has already tried his luck in acting and radio jockeying.
He acted in the Hindi film ''Lottery'' and was recently also a part of dance reality show Nach Baliye on TV.
“I would often crib and complain about things so I thought why not be a part of it. I'm influenced by the party ideology and would like to actively work at whatever role I'm given in this party,” Abhijeet says.
