Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Bengali actress Nusrat Jahan is making news for her personal life these days. The Basirhat MP had recently revealed that all is not well in her married life, and had claimed that her wedding with husband Nikhil Jain was not valid under Indian laws. Rumours were also abuzz about Nusrat’s pregnancy. The TMC leader’s pregnancy rumours have now been confirmed after she was seen posing with her baby bump in a group picture. The viral photo also features Bengali actress Srabanti Chatterjee alongside Nusrat and two others.
On the other hand, her husband has claimed that the couple has not been together for the last six months. The indifferences between Nusrat and her estranged husband became public recently after both of them made startling revelations against each other. Nusrat had married Jain, a businessman, at a lavish wedding in Turkey soon after her Lok Sabha win in May 2019. The couple also hosted a grand reception in Kolkata which was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
However, media reports suggested that a rift in their marriage started last year, and the couple was living separately since November 2020. Since then, the rumours of their divorce also started making rounds. Earlier this week, Nusrat claimed her marriage with Jain is not legal as interfaith marriage, on foreign land, requires mandatory registration under the Special Marriage Act in India. The 31-year-old added that since the marriage is not legal, questions of a divorce do not arise.
Jain initially said he didn’t want to comment as the matter is in court. Later, the businessman revealed that he pressed Jahan several times to get their marriage registered in India, but she avoided these requests all the time.
