BANGALORE: Many colleges affiliated to Bangalore University (BU) are in a soup for allowing some ineligible students to write semester exam this summer.
A press release from the University says that in the semester exams held from May 2 to May 27 this year, some colleges allowed 195 students to appear for their sixth semester exams even though the students were not eligible for it. A senior BU official said the varsity was issuing notices to all such colleges, asking why no action should be taken against them. The BU official said that as per rules, if a student has not paid fees for fifth semester exam, he/she cannot appear for sixth semester exams. Notwithstanding the rule, some colleges affiliated to BU allowed the students to appear for sixth semester exams.

As per rules stated by BU, these students should have been debarred from internal assessment as well. However, the colleges allowed them to appear for internal assessment and submitted their marks to the university. The BU official said it was while announcing the sixth semester results that the varsity discovered the anomaly.
