TIRUCHY: Former minister Veerapandi Arumugam, who was released on bail from Central Prison here on Tuesday told newsmen that he never acquired even a single cent of land illegally. Arumugam, who was arrested in connection with a land grab case in Salem, was lodged in the Central prison Coimbatore initially. The Madras High Court granted him bail and was released on September 6. However, he was arrested the same day in another case of threatening two jewellery shop owners of Salem to hand over their land in a prime area in the Steel City. He was later brought to the Central prison here. Meanwhile on September 16, Arumugam was granted bail by the HC and was released on Tuesday. Arumugam said the AIADMK government was planning to win both the by-election and local body poll by putting all the DMK leaders and functionaries behind bars.
