Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said that the state cannot be divided on political considerations and that a time-frame cannot be imposed for taking such a sensitive decision as that of bifurcation of the state.
Less than 48 hours after thousands of pro-Telangana activists gathered at the Necklace Road here on September 30 for a separate Telangana state, the chief minister came tough on the Telangana protagonists by rubbishing the demand for a specific time-frame for the demanded bifurcation.
He said that the final say rests with the Centre, which would take a decision keeping several factors in view.
Kiran Reddy told the national media about his views and observations on the Telangana crisis and promised that he would urge the Congress high command to take a decision on the statehood issue for which he claimed that consultations are on.
The chief minister expressed displeasure over his own party leaders’ comments accusing him of sending wrong reports to the Centre and misguiding the party high command.
Rubbishing the allegations, he said that he had not sent any report to the party high command and that the party was well aware of the prevailing situation in the state as well as that of the Congress leaders and of the cadres in the state.
Stating Telangana as a long pending issue, he hoped that the party would be able to find an amicable solution which would be acceptable to all the regions of the state.
While answering a question that appeared in a section of the press that some of his cabinet ministers and MLAs are ready to submit their resignations, Kiran Reddy said that they are free to speak to the party high command and party in-charges as it was their personal decision.
“However, if some outside forces or other political parties press ministers and MLAs for submitting resignations, as a Congressman, I would take responsibility to protect them and prevent them from doing so,” the chief minister said.
Reacting to the incidents of damage of public and private properties by the Telangana agitators during the March, he said police would register cases against those involved in the incidents and also those who provoked them.
He said that he would see to it that the guilty are punished as per the law and blamed the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) leaders for not keeping their word given to the government.
“If we can achieve unity, no force on this earth can dare defeat us in the next elections,” he said.
He wanted to intensify efforts in forging unity in the party and speeding up the day-to-day administration.
On the question of the merger of the TRS with the Congress, Kiran Reddy said that the decision rests with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and that he has no say in such matters.
“It is for the party high command to discuss issues like electoral adjustments, alliances and mergers only at the time of elections,” he said, adding that he would be giving top priority to law and order along with good governance without hindering developmental initiatives
