The City Police Commissioner has rejected a DMK activist’s plea seeking permission to hold a fast in front of party headquarters Anna Arivalayam here on October 5 to protest denial of party ticket to him.
When the petition from JM Ghose of Srivilliputhur came up before Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar on Monday, the police produced an order dated September 29 last refusing permission to hold the fast.
“No one would be allowed to observe fast in front of Arivalayam situated on Anna Salai. If the petitioner was willing to observe the fast other than the area specified, he was to approach the inspector concerned for getting necessary permission. Since Metro rail project was in progress in front of Arivalayam and the entire area was prone to traffic snarls, permission was denied,” the order said.
Holding that the prayer sought for by the petitioner had become infructuous, the judge dismissed the petition. Ghose claimed that he paid `32 lakh to DMK leader KKSSR Ramachandran to contest in the 2011 Assembly elections. However, neither the ticket was given nor the money returned.
When he asked Ramachandran to return the money, he was allegedly threatened. To draw the attention of party higher-ups, he wanted to observe a fast in front of Arivalayam and he applied for permission. As there was no reply from the police, he filed the present writ petition.
