Nilgiris Farmers Cultivate Broccolis, Earn A Profit Of Rs Rs 3 Lakh Per Acre
A farmer named Muthu Kumar opened up about how broccoli has gained popularity in recent times.

In the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu, farmers have been growing broccoli, which is quite popular in the area. To grow this vegetable, farmers purchase the seedlings of the plant for broccoli cultivation and plant them in their already prepared fields. After this, fertilisers are applied to the soil and the plants are watered to properly maintain the crops. What makes broccoli a popular vegetable in this area is it requires low investment and has the potential for high profits. It is said that the vegetable yields Rs 3 lakh per acre profit. This has further piqued the interest of other farmers.

A farmer named Muthu Kumar opened up about how broccoli has gained popularity in recent times due to its health benefits. He shared, “Broccoli was not liked earlier. But because it is healthy, it is selling well. 50 rupees per kg is quite profitable. Broccoli cultivation is very profitable and easy to sell. It has more medical benefits and more people are buying it”.

Another farmer, Sekar, shared that they cultivated broccoli because of the profit margins. The expense of one-acre land results in profits of about Rs three to four lakh rupees. While previously, broccoli used to sell for Rs 50 to 100, now, due to high demand, it easily sells for Rs 200 to Rs 250, increasing the profit margins. Compared to other crops, the investment required in broccoli cultivation is quite low.

The seedlings of broccoli are available right at the stores. Since the plant requires a lot of care, farmers prefer to buy seedlings. It gets ready for harvest within 70 days after planting and can also be harvested up to 100 days. The cost for one acre ranges from 30,000 to Rs 40,000. The seeds are available in stores. Since it requires a lot of care to grow them into seedlings, farmers prefer buying them as seedlings.
