CHENNAI: Ever eyed an encyclopedia on a rack of a bookstore and found it too expensive to indulge in? Here’s a new bookstore that offers you the luxury of buying books at pocketfriendly installment rates.Great Books, a bookstore in CP Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet, has on display a select precious collection of limited books in art, science, culture, religion, culinary expertise and literature. Says PN Manoharan, director of Akshara Multimedia India, who owns the store, and a book-lover himself, “Book lovers are a league in themselves. They cannot be categorized as normal buyers. We want to give these book-lovers the luxury of buying the books in a way that is affordable to them. If a book-lover is interested in buying the new edition of the Britannica Encyclopedia, which costs `63,000 for a set of 32 volumes, we give buyers the choice of paying `13,000 upfront, after which the buyer can pay a monthly instalment of Rs 5,000 per month for 10 months. We will also deliver the books home,” he said. We are soon planning to launch a scheme of door-to-door sale of books too, he added.The store, which opened on Sunday, is situated in 68, 1st floor, CP Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet. A special book exhibition with discount is on till July 16 in the store which closes on Tuesdays.
