We lack resources to implement NCC in all schools. As of now, there are over 11,000 institutions in the country and 335 in the state waiting to join hands with us,” he said.He was on an official visit to the State NCC Directorate at Secunderabad. Interacting with the media, he said the State has not just been number one in terms of its strength of 1.29 lakh cadets but also a role model in providing maximum incentives to the cadets. “According to a recent GO, the State now offers 1% reservation for our cadets in medical and engineering colleges. Over 700 engineering seats are reserved for NCC cadets and 50 seats in medical against just 6 earlier,” he said. Against the earlier reservation of 0.25% in medical and 1% in engineering, the state government had made it 1% reservation in both the fields.Further, he said NCC had plans to start its academy in the state capital. “We have asked the state government to give us land to establish NCC academies in every district in the state. We have asked for 5-10 acres to develop all sorts of facilities to develop top class academies for our cadets like in the state of Punjab where the first one is going to be opened soon,” he said.Speaking about the development and expansion plans, he said, “there were about 12 lakh NCC cadets in the country at present. We plan to take it to 15 lakh by 2015. 29% of our cadets are girls. We are planning to increase this to 33% by 2015 and ultimately 50%.” However, according to him, 85% cadets want to join the Indian army. “Our aim is to make responsible citizens, and we do not force anyone to join the army,” he said.When asked about the shortage of uniforms for cadets, he said the central government had sanctioned Rs 40 crore towards uniforms for cadets.
