With the voting for Bangalore South taking place on April 17, Congress candidate from the constituency Nandan Nilekani in his blog, thanked the people of Bengaluru for believing in him.
Here is his blog:
On April 17, South Bengaluru, along with the rest of Karnataka, voted to elect its MPs for the House of the People.
When I came out with my family to vote, I met enthusiastic voters, party workers and volunteers. I saw voters make way for an elderly lady, close to my mother's age, helping her up the ramp to the polling booth. I saw children with their parents, watching a process they will be part of in the future. I saw new innovations happening across Bengaluru, where the high-tech of volunteers met the high-touch of our party cadre.
We will eventually know the result on May 16. But I know one thing is certain: we are part of a movement that is transforming elections in India. Our efforts are helping make our elections more inclusive and diverse, by reaching out to voters online and offline, by encouraging first-time voters, and by connecting the energy of the party and ordinary volunteers together.
The people responded powerfully: engaging in conversations about real policies and results, and turning out in large numbers to deliver their verdict. The turnout in South Bengaluru was higher than 2009 and 2013. April 17 was a victory for the city and a victory for our voters.
This campaign has reminded me again: that we are all ordinary people, but together we can do extraordinary things.
I'd like to thank everyone who was part of this campaign. Our Congress leaders in Bengaluru South, as well as our party workers, who worked long and hard in the eight assembly constituencies. The dedicated volunteer group, Together with Nandan, who took time off from their jobs and their families, and came out on the streets and into apartments to persuade voters.
To all the people of Bengaluru who believe in me, who believe in us - thank you for your support. And I hope to thank you again on May 16 for giving me the chance to build a better Bengaluru.
Keep an eye out for lots of updates. Our efforts continue in the coming days towards building a better city.
And many thanks to Ramesh Hunsur, Sneha Vachhaney and Rohit Parigi for many of the wonderful photos featured on this page.
