CUTTACK: Justice AS Naidu Commission on Monday cross-examined former IIC of Udit Nagar Police Station of Rourkela Sadananda Pujari as inquiry into police-magistrate scuffle in Rourkela in April recommenced here. Holding its 10th sitting, the Commission examined Pujari along with another witness Sunil Kumar Nanda. Pujari was cross-examined for about four hours by the lawyers of different parties. The IIC reportedly stated before the Commission that JMFC Arun Kumar Patnaik was in drunken state when he was brought to the police station on the fateful night but could not justify on what grounds he was brought to the police station. Earlier, the Commission examined 10 witnesses who had filed affidavits about the incident. Of them, Sahil Khan and Mehfuj Alam were the persons who had been brought to police station on the night of April 2 for interrogation in connection with another case. The witnesses, so far cross-examined till Monday, stated that the magistrate was there at the police station on the day and ‘abused’ the policemen. Additional Government Advocates Bikram Nayak and V.Narsingh appeared for the State Government while BP Tripathy represented Rourkela Bar Association, PK Nayak for Pujari and SC Mohapatra and AN Das appeared for Patnaik, the JMFC, for examination of the witnesses. Pursuant to the public notice issued by the Commission, 47 affidavits have been received. The Commission while observing that this inquiry will be a public one has posted the next date of hearing to November 26 and 27.
