Muzaffarpur: The CBI has confirmed that the skeleton found near the house of a missing girl Navruna two years ago was that of the teenager, her parents said on Thursday.
"CBI officials told us that DNA test confirmed that the skeleton was that of Navruna," victim's parents Atul Chakravorty and Maitri Chakravorty told reporters here. When CBI office was contacted, it confirmed the information.
Schoolgirl Navruna had gone missing from her home under Town police station here on September 2012. Initially CID was probing the case.
It was first thought to be a case of love affair. But, her parents suspected hands of land mafias as they had received threats over a 4 kattha land in the town.
On November 26, 2012, a skeleton was found from a drain near the house, and, on the basis of forensic tests CID said it was that of Navruna but the family did not accept it.
The CID sought blood sample of the father for a DNA test but he refused to give his blood saying he would do so only if the inquiry was handed over to CBI and the premier investigating agency asks for it.
Navruna's mother Maitri Chakravorty had met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to sought a CBI probe into her daughter's case and the state government recommended a CBI probe in March this year.
Navruna's parents said they would move court to ensure that those behind the killing of their daughter get lawful punishment.
