Two-wheeler congestion will soon be a thing of the past on the NSC Bose Road.
A multi-level parking lot that was proposed by the Chennai Corporation will take off soon, with the final proposal being set to be presented before the councillors for passing on August 24. If all goes according to plan, work might start as soon as the rainy season is over, said Corporation officials.
The earmarked 897-sq metre area nestles between the Flower Bazaar Police Station to its north and the police booth at its southern end. Proposed at a cost of Rs 4 crore, the project will have four floors and a terrace, excluding the ground floor. It will be able to accommodate a minimum of 800 two-wheelers at a total built up space of more than 2,900 sq metres.
The facility will be fully equipped with elevators, abundant lighting, fire safety features and 24-hour water supply. The building will also have a solar energy feature.
Officials say that the project would facilitate reduction in haphazard parking on Rattan Bazaar Road, Govindappa Street, Godown Street, Bunder Street, Badrian Street and Malayaperumal Street. Currently, the area is used as a parking lot for two wheelers and four wheelers, but due to space constraints, vehicles are also parked on the road making the area congested. In addition to this, the study on the proposed multi-level car parking facility near Panagal Park in T Nagar is nearly complete, said officials. “This project will be wholly privatised from its design and building to its maintenance. It is almost through. Once the Parry’s project takes off, we will concentrate on this one,” said Corporation sources.
