The Governor of J&K has asked Mufti to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister till new arrangements are made.
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has submitted his resignation to Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha on Saturday morning.
A Raj Bhavan spokesman said that the resignation has been accepted and the Governor asked Mufti to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister till new arrangements are made.
Ghulam Nabi Azad will replace Mufti on November 2 after Congress High Command nominated Azad as Chief Minister for the party's three-year turn to head the coalition government.
Mufti said Congress was hesitant whether or not he should continue but later on the High Command decided that this decision was in the interest of people of J&K and added that he is committed to extend support to the Congress.
