BALANGIR:  Do you think the populist feminine hairstyles in today's era are new and modern? Historians will disagree. They claim that the most modern designs were used by women in the Ninth Century AD which have percolated down to the present time through image imitation and minor changes.
Wellknown researcher Suresh Balbantaray, who has extensively studied Orissa folk dance and folk theatre recently came up with his fresh research findings. He said hairstyles found in the Yogini images at Hirapur in Bhubaneswar and Ranipur Jharial in Balangir speaks of an ultramodern aestheticism which can out shine the hairstyles evolved by the modern man.

"The hairstyles in the yogini images were copied by actresses in 70s and 80s", added Suresh. There are 64 hairstyles for the 64 yoginis.

Historians as per archaeological findings claim that the yogini cult was significantly prevalent from 9 to 12 century AD.
