MADURAI: A division bench comprising Justice R Banumathi and Justice B Rajendran, on Thursday, stayed a single judge’s order which directed an autonomous college in Madurai to re-admit two of its students, who were dismissed for possessing mobile phones inside the classrooms. He also ordered notice to the Secretary of the State Higher Education Department, Director of Collegiate Education, Registrar of MKU, and Madurai Collector seeking their response to the appeal filed by the college against Justice V Dhanapalan’s order.G Mariskumar, principal, filed the appeal stating that disciplinary proceedings in educational institutions did not require inquiry reports like in service matters.Justice Dhanapalan had earlier lambasted the college for misconstruing the relationship. However, the management claimed implementing the directions will require modifying the rules of the college. The matter is posted for further hearing on June 6.
