Mob torches buses as girl dies in bus accident in Kolkata
A 14-yr-old girl came under the wheels of a bus in Kolkata on Monday.

Kolkata: At least five buses were torched and several others damaged by a mob in West Bengal's Howrah district after a 14-year-old girl was killed when she came under the wheels of a speeding bus on Monday, police said.

"Riya Das, a class-VII student of Darnagar St Thomas High School in the district, was run over by a bus at Domjur locality. Soon after the accident, local residents went on the rampage and started ransacking several buses on the streets," a police officer said.

The angry locals also set afire five buses and ransacked several roadside shops in the locality.

The accident took place in front of the Domjur police station, about 40 km from Kolkata, when the girl was getting off from the bus.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle suddenly started moving when the girl was standing on the steps and was about to get off the bus. She fell from the bus and came under the wheels of another bus that was coming from behind.

Both the driver and helper of the vehicle fled the scene after the road mishap.

"Later Rapid Action Force (RAF) and combat force were deployed in the area to bring the situation under control," police said.

Sources said the police had also resorted to baton charge to quell the mob.
